How to use the Schema Markup Generator

Using schema markup the right way

  • Only mark up what's on the page and true: the same name, address and phone as your Google Business Profile.
  • One LocalBusiness block per location, on that location's page.
  • Test after publishing with Google's Rich Results Test, and fix any errors it reports.

About FAQ markup: since August 2023, Google shows FAQ rich results only for "well-known, authoritative government and health websites" (Google Search Central). The markup is still valid and still describes your page, but don't expect FAQ dropdowns in search results.

Structured data also helps AI tools understand your business. See our guide on getting found in ChatGPT and Google's AI answers, check your titles with the SERP preview tool, and see our SEO services.

FAQ

Common questions

What is schema markup?

Structured data in JSON-LD format that describes your page to search engines in a standard vocabulary (schema.org): for example your business name, address, phone and opening hours, or the questions and answers on a page.

Where do I put the code?

Paste it into the page's HTML, usually in the head section. Many website builders and WordPress SEO plugins have a field for custom code or structured data.

Will FAQ schema show my FAQs in Google?

Probably not as a rich result. Since August 2023, Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known, authoritative government and health websites. FAQ markup is still valid structured data and still describes your page clearly.

How do I check my markup is correct?

Test the page with Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator after adding the code. Make sure everything in the markup is also visible on the page and true.
