How to use the Engagement Rate Calculator

How to use your engagement rate

The formula is the same everywhere: interactions ÷ base × 100. What changes is the base. Use followers to compare accounts (for example when choosing an influencer), and reach to judge your own content, because it only counts people who actually saw the post.

Make the number useful

  • Compare like with like: your Reels with your Reels, this month with last month.
  • Look at saves and shares: they show people valued the post, not just scrolled past.
  • Watch the trend, not one post. Average your last 10 posts for a fair picture.
  • Check influencers the same way before you pay them: unusually low engagement for the follower count can mean an inactive or bought audience.

FAQ

Common questions

How is engagement rate calculated?

Add up the interactions on a post (likes, comments, shares and saves), divide by a base number and multiply by 100. The base can be followers, reach (people who saw it) or impressions (times it was shown). This calculator gives all three.

Which engagement rate should I use: followers or reach?

Engagement by reach tells you how people who actually saw the post responded, so it is better for judging content. Engagement by followers is easier to compare with other accounts, because follower counts are public.

Does it work for TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn too?

Yes. The formula is the same on every platform. Use whatever interactions the platform shows (for example reactions instead of likes on Facebook) and leave the others at zero.

Where do I find reach and impressions?

In each platform’s insights or analytics for the post, available on business and creator accounts. Followers is on your profile.
